Bailees Sexy Walts variation

Walt's Worm is a highly effective, minimalist trout nymph

Why it works

it imitates the small aquatic worms (especially midge larvae and annelids) that trout eat constantly. It’s simple, buggy, and triggers a feeding response even when fish aren’t actively hunting.

When I fish it

Water: Pocket water, riffles, fast seams

Rig: Dry dropper, euro

Materials

Tungsten Bead: Kindale silver tungsten bead

Hook: Kindale standard Jig any size suits

Thread: Semperfli Nano silk

Ribbing: Semperfli Perdigon body iridescent copper

Dubbing: Kindale hares ear + Squirrel electric olive

Hot Spot: Upavon tyers-mate Nymph-it

Step-1 Insert the slotted tungsten bead and seat it properly so the hook rides inverted. Place hook in vice with point angled slightly downward — helps keep proportions slim.Start thread behind bead.

Wrap down to just above the hook bend in smooth touching turns.

Keep this base thin — this fly is all about a slim profile.

Tie in small pearl/UV tinsel on the near side of hook.

Secure it along the shank to keep the body slim.

Return thread to rear.

Step-2 Lightly wax thread (optional).

Apply a very sparse noodle of olive/natural UV dubbing.Dub forward forming the body Slightly thicker toward bead Leave a 5mm gap between the bead and dubbing

Step-3 Counter-wrap the pearl tinsel in evenly spaced turns (4–5 wraps).Tie off behind bead.Trim excess. This gives segmentation and subtle flash without overpowering.Apply another dubbing loop and wrap over the perl tinsel tie off to the back of the bead.

Step-4 Switch to fluoro pink threadOR build a small band of hot pink dubbing.Make 3–5 tight wraps directly behind bead.Keep it compact. I’m using Upavon Tyers mate a great product for a hot spot !
