Smooth Cased Caddis (Olinga)

A natural imitation of an important food source for New Zealand trout.

Olinga caddis larvae belong to the family Conoesucidae and are found in New Zealand’s freshwater streams and rivers. They build smooth, tubular cases from fine organic materials and are an important food source for trout throughout their development.

Larvae can grow to approximately 15–20 mm long, depending on the species and stage of development.

Tied without a bead, this pattern offers a natural, unweighted presentation. Available in hook sizes #16 through #10, the range covers smaller larvae through to larger individuals. As the hook size increases, the fly offers a larger profile and slightly more weight from the hook and tying materials.

Fish it through runs, riffles and deeper pools using your preferred nymphing technique.
